Troup County has 100 free “Don’t be a Litterbug” signs available for residents to pick up at the Mike Daniel Recreation Center.

County Chairman Patrick Crews said the purpose of the signs is to send a message to passersby about not littering and to promote everyone playing a role in keeping Troup County clean. The signs will be given out first-come, first-served.

“It’s not going to be the silver bullet that ends littering, but we’re just trying to bring attention [to the problem],” Crews said. 

Crews said after he put his own “Don’t be a Litterbug” sign outside of his home, he wasn’t picking up “as much” trash for several days. 

There is a limit of one sign per household. Once the free signs run out, they can be purchased at P.C. Screen Printing & Sign Co., located at 507 Hill St. in LaGrange, for $15 each. 

In addition to the county’s signs, the city of LaGrange will also hold its annual “Leaving LaGrange Better than We Found it” campaign. 

The city will hold its annual massive city-wide litter pick-up from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and begin in front of LaGrange City Hall, located at 200 Ridley Avenue.

City offices will be closed during the pickup and reopen at 1 p.m.

After the cleanup, city employees and volunteers are invited back to Sweetland Amphitheatre to have lunch before going back to work.
