Malcom Boyd Taylor passed away at West Georgia Hospice on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. In his life, Boyd exemplified loving God and loving others, as taught in Matthew 22:36-40.

Boyd will be remembered for filling every room with laughter and bringing joy everywhere he went. Smiles were a gift he freely gave to all he met, and his daily goal was to bless others with hope and encouragement. Boyd was loved by his family, church, and friends and will be deeply missed. Boyd was born on Dec. 15, 1942, in Norfolk, VA. Through age 9, he was raised in West Point, GA, and later lived in LaGrange, GA, his home for almost 70 years. On April 17, 1964, Boyd married his high school sweetheart, Sherry (Adams) Taylor. During their 57 years of marriage, Boyd and Sherry raised their daughter, Susan (Taylor) Alberti, through their example of faith and unconditional love. He was a loving father-in-law to Rich Alberti and was “Poppe” to his grandchildren, Nolan and Melina Alberti, and to his nieces and nephews, Meredith, Matthew, Lauren, and John. He was also a spiritual father to many including Stanley Ellard, who preceded him in death, and Daniel Holloway.

He was known in the community for his service to others as a board member of The Pocket Cross Ministry and as a volunteer with Helping Hands and Gideons International. Earlier in his life, he was also a supporter of Habitat for Humanity and Boy Scouts of America and a member of Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship. During his career, Boyd was a dedicated employee of Troup EMC and Headley Construction, as well as a self-employed plumber and electrician.

Boyd was active in First Baptist Church on the Square, where he was a deacon for 35 years and served on the building committee. For over 8 years, he and Sherry served as ministry leaders for couples in their 30s and 40s, mentoring more than 50 couples and making many lasting friendships.

He had a great passion for the outdoors and loved deer hunting, often saying he enjoyed talking to God in the peace and quiet of the woods. In retirement, he refined his lifelong talent for storytelling, a hobby enjoyed by those whose lives he brightened with his humor and wit. He was a member of Azalea Storytelling and was a featured speaker at the 2020 Azalea Storytelling Festival event, A Taste of Storytelling.

Boyd will be remembered as a man who was faithful, consistent, and caring. Even in the weeks before his transition to Heaven, he prayed for America. Above all, nothing compared to the love Boyd had for God, his family, his country, and his friends.

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Linwood and Sue Taylor, and brother, Don “Jabo” Taylor.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rich Alberti; grandchildren, Nolan (Tracy) and Melina Alberti; brother, Dwight (Pat) Taylor; sister Bonnie (Charles) Smith; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Didi Taylor, Deb and Jerome Yates, and Judy and Richard Freeman; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

His family is grateful for the devotion of Thurston Garrard, Mike Armstrong, Jeb Brantley, Robby Cook, and many more treasured friends.

The celebration of Boyd’s life will be at First Baptist Church on the Square on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 10 a.m. Beginning at 9 a.m., the family will receive friends in the sanctuary. The family requests that masks be worn in the church.
