On Saturday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the City of LaGrange Animal Shelter will participate in the Adoptathon at Petsense at 141 Commerce Avenue.

There will be at least 12 animals at the event, all dogs. They will all be fixed, current on vaccines, and microchipped. All adoption fees will be waived.

“We always have a really good turnout with animals getting adopted,” said Petsense Store Manager Jada Steadham, who says the store typically hosts Adoptathons twice a year. “This is really just, as a company, our way to help and get involved in the community.”

Chris Bussey, animal services supervisor at the City of LaGrange Animal Shelter, hopes that waiving adoption fees will make the event successful. “Petsense actually asked us to come out and do the adoption event,” he said.

“We volunteer at Petsense periodically throughout the week and on the weekends already, doing adoption events. So we just wanted to make sure we participated in this one with Petsense again.”

Bussey said the shelter’s adoption rates at Petsense are usually good, averaging five to 10 adoptions per event.
