Many graduating classes in 2020 missed out on the opportunity to walk across the stage, flip their tassels and get handed their degree due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Graduates at LaGrange College were unable to have a commencement ceremony, but the college is making amends by combining the lost 2020 ceremony with the 2021 ceremony on Saturday, May 15 at Callaway Stadium.

“We heard from so many graduates from last year that they felt like they missed out on so much, and this would be the chance to gain some of the recognition they missed out on,” said Dr. Maranah Sauter, Vice President of Student Affairs for the college.

So far 360 students have RSVP’d to attend the ceremony, 120 of which are from the 2020 class, Sauter said.

As part of the ceremony, Robert Tucker of LaGrange and Atlanta businessman Jerry Wilkinson will be receiving honorary doctorates. President Susanna Baxter will be giving the commencement address. Graduating students are allowed five entry tickets for their families and all attendees are required to wear masks to abide by CDC guidelines.

The in-person commencement will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Callaway Stadium. The ceremony will also be livestreamed at https://www.lagrange.edu/academics/graduation/index.html.
