Parks were a center of discussion at the Hogansville City Council meeting last week.

The Hogansville City Council reviewed bids to begin work on Lofton Park on W. Main St.

The lowest bid was under $200,000, which City Manager Johnathan Lynn plans to present to council at their May 17 meeting.

“I can’t believe it’s finally here [and], that it’s getting to that point,” Lynn said during the meeting. 

The park will be built around the historic marker honoring former postmaster Isaiah Lofton, who lived through an assassination attempt in 1897.

The council plans to make it into a park for the community to enjoy and to bring more awareness to the historical marker, Lynn said.

A contract has also been approved for improvements for Lake Jimmy Jackson, Lynn announced.

Improvements included reconstructing the beach area to prevent erosion. The AVA ramp and boat launch are required to be completed by Memorial Day to accommodate for the upcoming summer weather, Lynn said.

Lynn additionally gave an update on the paving work at Strozier Park.

The paving work to add a parking lot is now complete with only the stripes needing to be added.

In other business, the Hogansville City Council passed a zoning ordinance amendment for outdoor storage.

The ordinance restricts outside storage for motor vehicles and mechanical devices.

Lynn additionally offered an update on improvement plans for the amphitheater.

Being that the project is SPLOST funded, Lynn plans for a landscape engineer to come in to create plans for other improvements to present to council.

“It needs a lot of [tender loving care],” Lynn said.
