The LaGrange Police Department has been made aware of a potential scam currently occurring within the City of LaGrange.

At least two local businesses have received phone calls and in-person visits from individuals claiming to be representatives of the City of LaGrange, according to a press release from LPD.

The incidents have been occurring since the end of April, Sgt. Robert Kirby with LPD said Thursday.

These individuals have indicated that they are assessing roof damage from recent storms and that funding is available to assist these businesses with repairs – provided they complete “contact sheets” with company information.

The individuals involved in the in-person visits were wearing security uniforms and were traveling in an unmarked vehicle.

Kirby added that the in-person visitors were reported to be wearing face masks and could not be properly identified.  The City of LaGrange will never send out individuals in unmarked vehicles, nor make in-person, city-related business calls without first contacting the business by telephone, the press release said. If you suspect you are the victim of a scam, report it to the LaGrange Police Department at (706) 883-2603.
