For years, Hogansville has talked about eventually moving city hall into a new location. Over the years, city leaders have realized the impact the Royal Theater could have if it’s renovated and used again as a performing arts center, rather than to serve as the home to city hall.

Now, the theater can finally be renovated.

Hogansville officially moved into the old PNC Bank building Monday, making it the official new home of city hall. It was a historic moment considering Hogansville’s city hall has been housed at the Royal Theater since 1984.

We believe this was the right decision for the city, and we’re glad to finally see it take place. Hogansville’s current leadership deserves a lot of credit, as does past council members who helped get the ball rolling on this project.

For seemingly a long time, Hogansville has been discussing the future of its city hall. Thankfully, those discussions are over now. We’re sure it’ll take some time for residents to adjust to the new building, which includes a drive-thru window, but that will happen quickly.

Now, the focus has to move to the Royal Theater, which could be the key to bringing some much-needed tourism back to Hogansville. It’s in a perfect location and is located right in the midst of the city’s downtown. It’s not hard to imagine people attracted by its uniqueness and interested in traveling a short distance to Hogansville to watch a show.

Let’s hope that’s a reality soon.

Step one is complete. Now, it’s on to the next big one.
