After such a weird year in 2020, Americans are back to traveling in record numbers around the holidays, such as the Fourth of July.

Whether it’s to see family or to travel to the beach, we know a lot of people will be on the roadways next week. After a lot of time spent cooped up at home last summer, it’s clear most are ready to hit the road and enjoy some sunshine.

That means people are also ready to share their vacation photos on social media.

“Look where I am” or “check out this view” posts are a lot of fun and create a lot of jealousy among friends and family. But they also let everyone know you are out of town.

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office reminded everyone of this via its social media page last week, asking that you don’t post vacation photos until you’ve made it back home.

That’s good advice, and it’s important to remember this week, especially if you’re going out of town.

While that beach photo or that yummy vacation food might seem like a great thing to post, it’ll be just as interesting a few days later.

Fight the urge to post something that lets potential intruders know you’re out of town and that your house is empty.

It’s along the same type of advice law enforcement gives around the holidays — don’t put empty boxes outside your house that show everything you might’ve had under the Christmas tree.

Take precautions by being careful with what you post this Fourth of July.
