At the Troup County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Troup County Human Resources Specialist Wesleigh Gaddy presented the Strongest Link Award of Excellence for June 2021 to Roads and Engineering Traffic Control Supervisor Robert Smith.

“The Strongest Link Award of Excellence Program is given monthly to a deserving employee who has demonstrated excellent performance, productivity, loyalty, professional pride, and other noteworthy accomplishments,” Gaddy said. “The award recognizes that all county employees link together to form a chain that provides the citizens of Troup County with excellent service. That service is only as strong as its weakest link in the chain.”

Gaddy said nominations are received from county employees and vetted by human resources, who then recommends the award recipient to a committee of peer employees.

She read out loud a portion of the recipient nomination form.

“He was the person that was on the scene of a car accident involving my daughter on June 17,” Gaddy said.

“He did everything he could to keep her calm and check on others that were involved. He stopped what he was doing in the middle of his workday to help others who [were] in desperate need.

“He was kind and gentle, and it did not go unnoticed.”

Smith received a plaque and a pin to go in his shirt.

A firefighter and police officer recently recognized by the Optimist Club of LaGrange were recognized again at the meeting.

Troup County Fire Chief John Ekaitis introduced Troup County firefighter Andreas Harrilson, the Optimist Club of LaGrange’s Troup County Firefighter of the Year.

Capt. Robert “Huck” Huckleberry, the Optimist Club of LaGrange’s pick for the Troup County Sheriff’s Officer of the Year, was also recognized.
