The Troup County School System is in the middle of online registration, and at the moment, the numbers are behind.

“Our online registration numbers are lagging behind this year,” said Jonathan Laney, TCSS’ director of secondary education. “We are blaming it on COVID… we are lagging behind.”

Laney said returning students must be registered for the upcoming year. Registering now will make meeting the teachers and creating schedules go much more smoothly, Laney said.

Under quick links on the Troup County School System website, there is a spot that says “online registration information.” The first is a link to register a child, and the other is to re-register a current student.

Laney said under that link to go to “campus parent” and follow through the instructions to register a student for the current school year.

During Monday night’s work session, the board also heard updates on or discussed the following topics:

• Deana Brown, director of elementary education, said the six-week elementary school program has two weeks left, counting this week. She said they started with 783 students in week 1 and ended with 681, a loss of 102 students. “There wasn’t a particular school that took a large hit,” Brown said, noting the lost students were pretty evenly divided.
• Laney updated middle and high school programs, which were four-week programs and have concluded. There were 296 participants in middle school and 578 students at the high school level.  There were 778 credits earned in high school, and 34 students earned enough to graduate. A summer high school graduation was held at Troup High School.
• The board discussed the purchase of 270 new Chromebooks from Sterling Computers at a cost of $98,755.20 and is expected to vote on Thursday.
