Betty Pitts passed away at West Georgia Hospice on July 27, 2021. She was 86 years old.

Betty was born in Troup County on Feb. 18, 1935.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Chuck and Cheryl Pitts of LaGrange, Paula and Ben Broadwater of St. Petersburg, Florida and stepchildren Pat and David Cameron of Moss Point, Mississippi, her grandchildren, Jessica Pitts of LaGrange, Jordan and Daniel Child of Pine Mountain and Carrera Cameron of Mobile, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Leon Pitts, her sisters, Faye Teaver and Brenda Greathouse, and her parents, Harvey and Imogene Hale.

Her family would like to acknowledge Vernon Woods Retirement Community and Poplar Creek Memory Care Facility for their professional and loving care.  A very special thank you is owed to Gail Studdard, her daily companion and caregiver.

A caring wife and devoted mother, Betty was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square and often enjoyed the fellowship of her Sunday school class. She was an avid reader and always pursued her passion for quilting and crocheting.

Before her health declined, she enjoyed crocheting with friends at the Active Life Center where she and others made prayer blankets for hospice patients. On the day of her passing, one such prayer blanket lay on her bed, a beautiful symbol of a life well lived.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of the Striffler Hamby funeral home with internment to follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery on Friday, August 6 at 11 a.m. Her family will receive visitors at 10 a.m. prior to the service in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donation considerations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of your choice.

Arrangements are by Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 1010 Mooty Bridge Road, LaGrange.
