Troup High School Principal Niki Watts and Athletic Director Andrew Calhoun recently accepted a plaque for having the school’s new athletic facility featured in the high-profile “Learning by Design” magazine last year. The award ceremony had been postponed due to the pandemic.

“It’s an honor to be recognized,” Watts said in a press release from the Troup County School System. “We watched this amazing process that literally started from a mud hole to a showpiece for the community. It’s beautiful inside and out and is utilized all day, every day, for our students and staff with true Tiger pride. It’s an honor to be recognized.”

“It’s a great place for our kids,” Calhoun added. “We’ve already hosted our first-ever cheerleading competition, the USA Southeast Regional Wrestling tournament, as well as basketball games and other events. The indoor practice facility is used by all our athletes from cheerleaders to football players as well as other sports and events. We’re very pleased with the facility and being able to use it daily.”

The Troup High School Athletic Complex was constructed with a pre-engineered metal building and houses multipurpose spaces for various sports and events. It was completed in January 2020 and was funded through Education SPLOST funds.
