Mrs. Jimmie Ruth Gurley, 90, of Columbus, Georgia died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, at Spring Harbor Memory, Columbus, Georgia.

Mrs. Gurley was born Sept. 19, 1930, daughter of Kate Oma Day and Lewie Emerson Alford.  Jimmie Ruth was an elementary school teacher for over 26 years, having received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees and performed all of that service in the State of Georgia.  She was a lifelong member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Professional Association of Georgia Educators.  She and her husband Jim (deceased) were married in 1948 and enjoyed 60 years of marriage before Jim’s passing in 2008.  They and their two sons spent many years in Thompson, Fitzgerald, and Columbus before retiring.  Jimmie Ruth was Presbyterian by faith.

Survivors include her two sons, James Ross Gurley and Frank Omar Gurley (Cynthia); one sister, Ellen Ross Jennings; three brothers, Fred Alford(Deena), Tom Alford (Phyllis) and Larry Nichols; two granddaughters, Alicia Ortiz McGlamory (Gary), Lindsey Gurley Power (Brett); and four great grandchildren, Alex Drew Owens, Weldon Lee McGlamory, Harper Ann Power, and Hadley Elizabeth Power. Nieces and nephews are Tami Alford Sani, Tonya Alford, Ed Alford, Kelly Alford, Leslie Jennings, Roslyn Jennings, Patti Alford, and Jan Alford.  Deceased brother, George Robert Alford (Jo)

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange for family members, and burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Columbus in memory of Jimmie Ruth Gurley.
