A 56-year-old woman died Saturday after sustaining injuries from an ATV accident on Whitfield Road.

Jenny Marterella died at the West Georgia Medical Center following the accident, per the Troup County Fire Department.

The Troup County Fire Department responded to the accident first at approximately 7:30 p.m. Saturday night. Chief Roy Cadenhead said that units located Marterella about a quarter of a mile in the woods where she had the accident. CPR was administered on scene.

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene following the fire department. Per the office’s incident report, officers on the scene interviewed Marterella’s husband, Bobby Marterella. Bobby said that she had taken her grandsons riding after she had gotten off of work around 6:30 p.m. At some point, the accident occurred and Marterella was pinned under the ATV. Bobby and his brother-in-law were able to lift the ATV off of her but were unsure how long she had been pinned under it.

The incident report does not clarify if either of Marterella’s grandsons were present during the time of the accident.

Cadenhead said that Marterella was the only one the Fire Department treated.

The incident was turned over to investigations.
