The Troup County Board of Commissioners  has announced that Ruth West has been named Troup County Planner, effective Sept. 8, 2021.

As Troup County Planner, West will be responsible for maintaining the County’s long range planning, including preparing and updating comprehensive plans; processing new and amended ordinances relating to planning, environmental protection, zoning, and subdivision regulations; providing administrative support to the Board of Zoning Appeals Planning Commission by preparing the agendas and recording meeting minutes; and coordinating and preparing necessary reports for annexation and de-annexation requests, along with other related duties.

West has served the citizens of Troup County for more than 16 years, most recently as the Planning and Zoning Technician for the Community Development Office.

In this role, West was responsible for preparing building permits and business licenses, digitizing zoning records for Planning and Zoning, and providing administrative support and assistance to the Troup County Community Development Office.

Before joining Community Development in 2018, West worked as a Corrections Lieutenant for the Troup County Board of Commissioners and as an administrative assistant for our Elections Office. She has both a B.A. in social science and an M.A. in Teaching and learning with technology from Ashford University.
