The upcoming R&B musical group Boyz II Men is proving to be another hit for the 2021 Sweetland Amphitheatre concert season.

Sunday’s show is nearly sold out, and the ticket sales have the amphitheatre’s staff excited about the potential for the season-ending Kip Moore concert on Oct. 8 as well.

“We’re at about 80 percent [sold out of tickets],” said Katie McGinty, general manager at Sweetland Amphitheatre, about Boyz II Men.

The season itself has been remarkably successful despite the uncertainty brought on by the COVID pandemic, noted Katie Van Schoor, the marketing/communications manager for the city of LaGrange.

Usually, Sweetland’s concert season starts in March or early April but was pushed up to mid-July due to COVID. The shows have been held back to back due to the shortened season, a tough but otherwise manageable feat, Van Schoor said.

Seven of the nine shows were rescheduled concerts from the 2020 season, and the majority of them came near to selling out completely. The season’s first show featuring county star Travis Tritt sold out completely.

“I think we’ve been very lucky…it’s just a joyful time to be together, to listen to live music and to make this happen,” Van Schoor said. “We were nervous, but our community has come out.”

McGinty is currently going through sale numbers to see how this season’s profits have gone, though so far it’s been fairly profitable, she said.

She said she’s already exploring possible musicians and groups for next year’s season on top of making plans for events such as Sweetland on Ice.

“We are very pleased with the outcome, especially with comparing us to other markets,” McGinty said, noting that other musical venues are still taking a hit due to tighter restrictions.

“Lord willing, we will have a full season next year.”

In the coming weeks, Sweetland will be preparing a special promotion to boost ticket sales for the Kip Moore show.
