The Troup County Jail currently has 29 COVID-19 cases, according to information released by the sheriff’s office on Wednesday.

This number is a small increase from the jail’s first report sent nearly two weeks ago when it had 24 cases.

The jail had a population of 548 on Wednesday, according to Public Information Officer Stewart Smith. Two inmates were hospitalized but are in stable condition and 103 in total have been vaccinated since vaccines became available on May 21.

This week 28 inmates who had their initial two shots of COVID vaccine in August received their second dose. In addition, 22 more inmates received their vaccines.

Per in-place protocol, new intakes to the jail are quarantined for a 14-day period for observation and are then released to general housing units. Any inmates that report to the jail staff that they are not feeling well or if COVID-19 symptoms are witnessed by staff, they are referred to the medical staff, who perform a COVID test as needed.

All staff members are required to wear face masks while on duty and are asked to monitor their symptoms.

They also have temperature checks and are required to report any COVID-19 contact incidents.

The visitation center remains closed for on-site visits, however, remote visits are still available.
