Ms. Elizabeth Seals Sims, a life-long resident of LaGrange, passed away on September 25, 2021. Ms. Sims was born on March 3, 1942 in LaGrange to the late James Hubert Sims, Sr. and Pearle Dunson Sims.

She received her education through the LaGrange Public School System, graduating from LaGrange High School. She furthered her education by receiving a BA Degree in Fine Arts from Wesleyan College in Macon and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Georgia. Ms. Sims taught at Macon Junior College and in the Troup County Public School System. Following her teaching career, she worked as a Librarian’s Assistant at the LaGrange Memorial Library for many years. Through all of this however, she always thought of herself as first and foremost an Artist and continued to produce imaginative drawings throughout her life. She was an active member of the LaGrange First United Methodist Church and the LaGrange Artist’s Guild, where she served as one of the Guild’s three Directors. She was a skilled artist who was frequently exhibited at local and regional art shows, including having her drawings displayed at the LaGrange Art Museum. Her work could be found at several galleries in LaGrange and the surrounding area. Her highly unique drawings were enjoyed by a loyal following of local art lovers.

Survivors include her brothers, James H. Sims, Jr. (Amy) and Thomas D. Sims (Liz); numerous nieces, nephews and her special cousins in LaGrange.

Services for Ms. Sims will be held on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 at 11:00 am at the St. Andrew’s Chapel at the LaGrange First United Methodist Church with Dr. John Beyers officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LaGrange First United Methodist Church, 401 Broad Street, LaGrange, 30240.
