In its biggest test of the season so far, LaGrange (4-1) made it interesting down the stretch but fell to Carver 42-27 in a key class AAAA, region 2 showdown.

Carver took a 30-7 lead at the half, helped by several Grangers turnovers.

Jaiden Credle scored on a 90-plus yard run in the first half for the Tigers, leading the way as Carver took the big lead into the half.

LaGrange came out of the locker room looking like a different team.

J’arthur Dunn and AJ Tucker scored touchdowns as the Grangers cut the lead to 30-20, and LaGrange had a chance to get even closer after Kway Coverson fell on a Carver fumble in Granger territory. However, quarterback Tae Snead was intercepted to end that drive.

Credle capped the ensuing Carver drive to make the score 36-20. On the next LHS drive, Snead was intercepted again by Antonio Watts, who made a great jump on the football. Watts ran the interception back all the way for a touchdown that put the Tigers up 42-20.

LaGrange didn’t stop fighting, pulling within 15 on a Snead pass to Kobe Jones to pull within 42-27. The Grangers even recovered the ensuing onside kick and still had a little more three minutes to work with.

However, Snead was injured early on the next drive and the offense stalled. Carver forced the Grangers to turn the ball over on downs and then proceeded to run out the clock.

LaGrange is off the next two weeks. They’ll take the field again against Spencer on Oct. 22.
