The late commissioner Richard English Jr.’s name, along with the logo for the Community Action for Improvement, Inc. has been temporarily removed from the CAFI building on 380 Lafayette Parkway.

Jennifer Corcione, the executive director of CAFI, said the removal of the names was due to renovations to the building’s front.

“The wall that [English’s] name was on, along with our CAFI name, has some leakage under that roof area,” she said.  “As soon as those things are completed, we’re going to put back CAFI’s name, logo and Mr. English’s name.” 

Corcione said the improvements could take as long as a month to complete.

In 2016, the names on the building were removed so that roof repairs could be made to the building. They were reinstalled later that year. English, Troup County’s longest-serving and only African American commissioner, was the Chairman of CAFI for 35 years. He died in August.

The ongoing renovation work will not affect CAFI’s operations, Corione said.
