Last week, a horrific crime took place in Troup County where a woman and her unborn child were shot and killed.

The incident took place near the intersection of Highway 219 and Highway 18 and resulted in the death of Akeila Ware.

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office quickly apprehended Alonza Dargan Jr. as the murder suspect in Ware’s death.

Dargan is facing charges of murder, feticide and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Dargan was stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina as a member of the U.S. Army and will be brought back to Troup County to face his charges. His guilt is up for a court of law to decide.

All of the law enforcement involved, but especially the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, deserve a lot of credit for arresting Dargan so quickly. In these types of cases, typically the arrest needs to happen within 48 hours, something Sheriff James Woodruff pointed out.

And it’s important to remember that these types of cases are not easy for our law enforcement personnel to work either.

We’re sure this one was especially tough,  a young mother who has five children being shot and killed in her car.

In cases like this, it’s hard not to wonder how our law enforcement professionals and first responders in general are able to do their jobs each day. We can’t even imagine.

We’re sure the Ware family appreciates their quick work in making an arrest and bringing some closure about what happened.
