March for Jesus returned this past Saturday, Oct. 16 for the seventh year. The event started with a group prayer at 8 a.m. and a march from Sweetland to Lafayette Square.

The group sang hymns as they marched. Once at the square, event goers listened to sermons and live music from different community members.

Doris Almand, the event’s founder and organizer, spoke on the mission of the event.

“We just try to honor God because that’s what it’s all about,” she said.

“No denomination or anything like that, it’s just all about worshiping God.”

Almand herself attends Living Water Baptist Church.

Almand promotes the event in a variety of different ways and encourages everyone to attend. “We put it on Facebook now,” Almand said.

“We make a lot of flyers we put flyers everywhere. We give them to different churches. one year we went, me and one of my friends, we went to every church we could think of in Troup County.”

Her husband, Dr. Joseph Almand, spoke briefly on his wife’s role within the event.

“She’s pretty much in touch with everything and is the glue that holds it all together,” he said.

The event garnered approximately three hundred people for this year’s event.

“I’m feeling great,” Almand said when asked how she felt the event went overall. “I think God showed up and he showed out.”
