Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Brooklyn Render isn’t your typical 10-year-old. Last week, she is believed to have scored the first touchdown by a female in the history of the West Point Recreation Department. How cool is that?

Render’s Raiders are having a good season, and Render, who typically plays center and defensive tackle, had a chance to get in the end zone against the Seahawks.

Not every female is cut out for playing football, just like every boy isn’t either.

But it’s pretty awesome to see Render holding her own in a male-dominated sport, showing that the girls can play too — if they choose to.

For Render, it was a no-brainer.

“I’m really not that type of girly girl for real. And then it was soccer. And I didn’t want to play that because I lost interest,” Render said.

“I decided to play football.”

We’ve seen female officials in the NFL, such as Sarah Thomas, and 12 women are serving as coaches in the league this year.

We saw Vanderbilt’s Sarah Fuller serve as a kicker for the Commodores last year in a story that made national headlines.

Over and over, it’s being proven that football isn’t just for the guys. We think that’s a good thing.

And Render, in her own way, has made some history on a local level. Congratulations!
