A groundbreaking was held for a new medical office Tuesday on Lafayette Parkway.

The ceremony was held for LaGrange Med Venture’s Laniakea Medical Office and organized by the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce. Sheridan Construction is the contractor for the facility, which will be located at  1015 Lafayette Parkway across from Walmart Neighborhood Market.

Dr. Richard Hollstrom and Dr. Takia Oglesby are partners in the venture, and this will be their second medical center together.

“When I first came to LaGrange, we wanted to lease some space, but everything was older and we couldn’t meet the specifics of my particular practice because of the surgery center. You have to meet state standards,” Oglesby said. “So everything, in terms of medical facilities, was 20 to 25 years or older.”

To alleviate this problem, Oglesby invested in up-to-date equipment in the first building and will also do so in the second. Hollstrom explained that up-to-date equipment will help encourage doctors to come to LaGrange.

“Without a doubt, we’ll get to bring the doctors who were looking to come here. They’ve already rented space in our new building,” Hollstrom said. “And they weren’t coming here, but now they have a space to come in.”

Oglesby said he hopes LaGrange will begin to expand in the direction of the new office.

“Hopefully, we’ll be right in the center of when LaGrange starts to expand. Everything right now is on the other side of the city, in terms of the hospital and everything,” Oglesby said. “We give access on this side of town and give access to people in the surrounding areas. So we bring more people into the city.”
