A 41-year-old man is charged with assault, battery and kidnapping charges after allegedly abducting his mother and taking her with him while he attempted to elude police, according a press release from the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday at 8:40 p.m., deputies with TCSO were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Kimbrough Road in response to a fight and possible adult abduction that had occurred.

Deputies were told that a male identified as Marco Shephard had forcibly removed his mother from the home while threatening her with a knife. He had pushed her in a car and drove away from the home. 

The caller told TCSO that the suspect might be driving toward LaGrange. This information was relayed to deputies and officers with the LaGrange Police Department, and a few minutes later contact was made with the car on S. Lewis St. Officers then attempted a traffic stop. The driver pulled over and was given verbal commands to exit the vehicle. During this time, the female attempted to exit the vehicle from the passenger side but was grabbed by the suspect. Shepard then fled from the deputies and officers as they gave pursuit. After a few minutes, the female was put out of the vehicle while the car was still in motion.

Shephard continued traveling westbound on Vernon Street and a PIT maneuver was attempted by the LPD. However, the driver was able to continue driving the car until he finally stopped on Vernon Street near Ferrell Dr. Shepard was described as combative and highly agitated by the press release, but was finally taken into custody without further incident. The victim was transported to Wellstar West Georgia for treatment of her injuries.

Shephard is charged with armed robbery (FVA), kidnapping (FVA), simple battery (FVA), aggravated assault (FVA), criminal trespass (FVA), cruelty to a person over 65 (FVA), possession of a knife during the commission of a crime (FVA).
