It is with deep sorrow and love that we mourn the passing of our dear mother, Nellie Mildred Stewart, 102, into her eternal heavenly home on Nov. 1, 2021. “Nell”, as she was affectionately known, was a longtime resident of LaGrange.

Nell was born on May 30, 1919, to the late James Daniel Marion Stephens and Martha Jane Register Stephens in Brundidge, Alabama. She moved to LaGrange, Georgia in 1945 with her husband, S.C. Stewart (deceased). They were married on Sept.23, 1938, and were members of the Second Baptist Church of LaGrange. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Survivors include her son, Jimmie Lee Stewart and his wife Karen of Arizona City, Arizona; daughters, Shelby Jean Patterson (husband Dale, deceased) of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Doretta Nell McCain and husband Sonny of LaGrange, Georgia; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021, in the Restlawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Bob Tidwell officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Nellie M. Stewart.
