There are great weeks when it comes to development, and then there are GREAT weeks. And boy did LaGrange just have itself a great one.

Perhaps in a few years we can look back and circle this week as one that leads to even more growth in Troup County and even more opportunities ahead.

First came the news that Remington would relocate its headquarters to LaGrange, which equates to a $100 million investment and 856 jobs. Then, the city followed by approving a public/private partnership that will include the construction of downtown apartments.

The MOU was approved through EYC Companies, LLC, Callaway Foundation, Downtown LaGrange Development Authority, Troup County and the City of LaGrange was for a $41 million public-private partnership that includes the apartment complex, a parking garage and retail space in downtown LaGrange.  Under the agreement, the city of LaGrange will contribute $1 million for public parking, as well as streetscape work adjacent to the structure.

Downtown housing has been a major concern for years, and it sounds like this new venture will help alleviate some of that problem.

Remington is also going to add hundreds of well-paying jobs, and we’re sure many people (both locals and folks close by) are paying attention for when the application process starts for employment. Hopefully, this will be a week to remember when we reflect down the road.
