Football coaches like to say that they want to be playing when the grass is turning brown and the weather gets cold.

Well, two of our local high schools are still going to be playing football this Friday night, though neither will be at home. Callaway will play at undefeated Bleckley County, while LaGrange will play at Marist.

Troup High saw a tremendous season end on a rainy night Thursday at Callaway Stadium, where the weather wreaked havoc on both game plans.

LaGrange, big underdogs if you asked around the state, won every facet of Friday night’s 19-0 victory over Baldwin. Callaway won a back and forth game with Pepperell, though the Cavaliers were in control of the game all night.

Now, bigger challenges await.

And although these aren’t the shortest drives, nor will Friday’s games be played in the warmest weather, we certainly hope to see big crowds on hand to cheer on our local teams.

We congratulate the Grangers and Cavaliers on tremendous seasons so far, though both teams will tell you they haven’t accomplished anything yet.

Good luck Friday night as you continue the playoffs.
