Ms. Janice Rebecca “Jan” Smith, passed away on Nov. 17, 2021.

Jan was born on Aug. 13, 1940, in LaGrange, the only child to the late Robbie Smith and Mary Jones Smith. She was raised in LaGrange, ultimately graduating from LaGrange College. Education was her initial path in life, having taught at the middle school at Ft. Benning. After leaving the educational field, her career took her Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale and finally back to her home of LaGrange where she retired from Milliken and Company.

She loved “her town” of LaGrange and supported many of the cultural endeavors that it has to offer. Some of these included the LaGrange Art Museum, the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, the Cochran Gallery, the Lafayette Society for Performing Arts (LaGrange Theater Company) and many other opportunities in Troup County. Jan was a huge supporter of the Downtown Shops in LaGrange and could often be found at the Marketplace enjoying conversation with friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand with Minister Floyd Tenney officiating. Family and friends will gather beginning at 1 p.m. for a time of visitation. Private interment will be held at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Survivors include numerous cousins, extended family and a host of friends. As a lover of visual and performing arts, donations may be made to your choice of one of these deserving groups in LaGrange.
