A holiday tradition continues this Friday in LaGrange with the 38th annual performance of The Nutcracker by Lafayette Ballet Company.

Presented by the Lafayette Society for Performing Arts, The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann’s 1816 Christmas story, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.”

The performance will have four showtimes from Dec. 3-5, 2021, at Troup High School Fine Arts Auditorium, located at 1920 Hamilton Road in LaGrange.

The Nutcracker is a traditional Christmas ballet set at the Stahlbaum family home on Christmas Eve. Daughter Clara is gifted a beautiful Nutcracker that comes alive and battles an evil Seven-Headed Mouse King. After Clara helps defeat the evil Mouse King, the Nutcracker, impressed by her bravery, transforms into a prince and whisks Clara away to a magical winter wonderland.

The Christmas classic production will feature ballet performers of all ages from the LaGrange area.

The beloved ballet tale is choreographed by LBC’s Artistic Director, Amy Orr.

LBC’s Nutcracker includes almost 170 performers ranging in age from kindergarten to seniors in high school plus our guest artist, Raul Peinado, and community guest performers,” Amy said.

Performed by LBC dancers of all ages, backgrounds and skillsets, the diverse cast, elaborate costumes and whimsical set make The Nutcracker an exciting, fantastical Christmas tradition.

“With performing arts being so disproportionately hit during the pandemic, we are extremely grateful to be able to move toward more normal, traditional performances for our dancers and community this year,” Amy said.

“Ballet is all about being live and interactive with our audiences. We cannot wait to see people in the seats this weekend.”
