The LaGrange Flag Football team saw a successful first season end earlier this week, but not before the Grangers secured their first playoff victory.

The team, which is in its first year, traveled to Savannah on Tuesday to compete in the first and second round of the state playoffs. LaGrange won its opening game over Mount Vernon 25-21 before losing to Calvary Day 26-0.

In the opening game, sophomore Sam Cottle, who led LHS in touchdowns this year, caught a perfect pass in the middle of the field for a touchdown to give the Grangers their first score of the game. A pass to Center Holly Lynn made the score 7-0 Grangers.

The Lady Mustangs answered with their own touchdown and extra point to tie the game. The Grangers defense provided the next score of the game as Cottle intercepted a pass and returned it nearly 60 yards to give the Grangers a 13-7 lead going into the second half. In the second half, the Grangers scored again on a touchdown throw by Quarterback Corriah Williams into the hands of Cottle to give the Grangers a 19-7 lead. The Mustangs answered quickly with two touchdowns and two two-point conversions.

With four minutes remaining, Williams threw a short pass to Lynn and Lynn pitched it back to senior Olivia Sato, who ran down the field for the game winning touchdown.

The defense was lights out in the last three minutes as it held the Lady Mustangs to 21 points, allowing the Grangers to advance to the second round of state playoffs.

The second game was right after, and the Grangers were outmatched in game two against the Calvary Day Cavaliers. 

The Lady Cavs came out aggressive early scoring 18 points in the first half. In the second half, the Grangers fought hard to try to get on the board but the Cavs defense held them off the scoreboard.
