A 27-year-old man the LaGrange Police Department said is illegally staying in the United States was arrested Monday morning after allegedly stabbing and killing his roommate in the apartment they were sharing with two other men.

The suspect, Carlos Eduardo Gomez Rios, was not on probation or parole, according to a press release from the LPD. The release further said Rios was deported in 2016 from the U.S. and is currently in the U.S. illegally.

On Monday at approximately 1:40 p.m.,  the LPD responded to the Woodland Trail Apartments in reference to an unknown problem.

Upon arrival police located the caller who indicated that there had been an altercation inside apartment 833 and there was a person inside who needed medical attention. Officers entered the apartment and located the victim, later identified as 40-year-old Crecensio Rosas De La Rosa, in a bedroom with a stab wound to the neck. Emergency medical aid was administered at the scene before he was transported to Well Star West Georgia where he later died of his injury.

The initial investigation revealed that four male subjects, including the victim and suspect, lived in the apartment together. The suspect and victim had been involved in an argument. During the argument, Rios stabbed the victim and fled the apartment.

The suspect was located in the parking lot of the apartment complex, arrested and later transported to the Troup County Jail for murder.

The investigation remains active and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the LPD at (706) 883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers (706) 812-1000.
