The 2022 Martin Luther King, Jr. parade has been canceled.

Yvonne Pittman, the parade’s coordinator, said the cancellation was due to an abundance of caution due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Troup County.

“We’re in the red now,” Pittman said Tuesday.

According to data from the Georgia Department of Public Health, Troup County has 977 positive COVID-19 cases since Dec. 31.

The parade, sponsored by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. was to take place Saturday at 1 p.m. Earl Chambers, head football coach at LaGrange College, was chosen as the grand marshall for the parade.
