John W. Cameron, 73, formerly of LaGrange, departed on Friday at his home in Stockbridge, Georgia.

Mr. John William “Bootsie” Cameron was the son of the late Frank and Addie Hill Cameron. He was born in LaGrange.

He was a graduate of the Ethel W. Kight High School Class of 1968 and later joined the U.S. Army where he received the rank of Sgt. E-5.

At an early age he united with Rising Grove Baptist and served as a deacon. He adopted Cornerstone Community Baptist in Atlanta as his second church.

John married Catherine “Sister” Kirkland in 1994 and to this union was blessed with five children.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Catherine, son Charlie (Stephanie) Cameron of LaGrange, grandson Preston (Trinity) Cameron of LaGrange, grand children Preston, Jr. and Honesty, sister Addie (Willie) Berry of Douglasville, Georgia, brother Frank (Peggy) Cameron, Jr. of  Decatur, Georgia, mother-in-law Cassie Strickland of Stockbridge, Georgia, sisters-in-laws Cynthia (Melvin) Raybon and Vivian Blair and a host of relatives and friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents and by three sisters and three brothers.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday at noon in Restlawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Roxanne Tobias officiating and the Rev Dr. W.J. Lawson as eulogist.

Chapel viewing will be held on Friday from 5-7 p.m. The family will receive friends at 713 Daniel St.
