1958 – 2022

Councilman LeGree D. McCamey passed away unexpectedly on Thursday at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center.

LeGree, the son of the late Floyd and Lorene Gates McCamey, was born Nov. 18, 1958, in LaGrange, Georgia.

He received his education in LaGrange, Georgia; and graduated from LaGrange High School, Class of 1976.

LeGree went on to study Music at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia; earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees respectively.

LeGree united with his beloved First Baptist Church, Fannin Street where he currently served as Minister of Music.

An accomplished musician, LeGree spent several summers performing in Summer Theater at Callaway Gardens, was a guest soloist at First Presbyterian Church, Newnan, Georgia, singer with the Sons of LaFayette of LaGrange and the Good News Choraliers. In addition, he served as the musician for Kimberly Clark Christmas Carolers and composed “The Helping Hand” song for United Way. LeGree was legendary, conducting Gospel Music Workshops and did so throughout Georgia and Alabama.

In 2007, LeGree was elected to serve District 2 on the LaGrange City Council and served for fourteen years. He served with honor and devotion. He was also active on the Downtown Development Authority.

Survivors include his sisters:  the Rev. Johnnie (Willie) McCamey Freeman, Gail J. McCamey, Mina W. McCamey; brothers:  Charlie D. McCamey, the Rev. Josh (Pam) McCamey, Kenneth A. McCamey, and Floyd Meredith; loving nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; his extended family, special friends, his East Depot/Union Street/Brenda Boulevard Family, his loving First Baptist Church Family, other family members and friends.

The Family will receive friends in the Chapel of Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home on Friday from 5-7 p.m.

The Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Southview Cemetery and will be LIVE Streamed via FaceBook at www.facebook.com/lakesdunsonrobertson.com.
