The Troup County area has plenty to do this weekend, and the majority of it will be held inside, away from the cold weather.

One of Georgia’s premier oldies entertainment group, the Sock Hops, will perform a special fundraising concert in LaGrange this weekend.  The four-man group specializes in four-part harmonies of some of the most renowned songs of the 50s, 60s and 70s. The Sock Hops will perform at the Troup High School Fine Arts Auditorium this Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance at Troup High School, LaGrange Toyota, Landscape Supply of LaGrange and Weathers Honda.

The Chipley Historic Center in Pine Mountain will be sponsoring a program and special exhibit on famed Bridge builder Horace King. Guest speaker Kaye Lanning Minchew will present, “Things you might not know about Horace King” at 2 p.m. this Sunday in the Family Life Center of the First United Methodist Church at 206 McDougald Ave in Pine Mountain. Following the program, guests are invited to take the short half-block walk to the Historic Center for the opening of the exhibition entitled “Horace King, A Man Ahead of His Time.” This exhibit explores the life of King, his accomplishments, and his family. The exhibit will be available for public viewing from Jan. 30 to May 27. Admission to both the speaking engagement and exhibition are complimentary though donations to the Center are always welcome.

Tory Nixon, a children’s book writer and illustrator, will visit Pretty Good Books Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nixon will be introducing her Strong and Mighty Kids interactive coloring book. The first 100 people to purchase a coloring book will receive a free doughnut from Local Groundz coffee shop. Twenty percent of the proceeds will go directly to Get Troup Reading, The Exceptional Way and Calumet Center for Healing and Attachment.

Sweetland on Ice will be open from noon to 9 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Ice skating and skate rentals are $14, ice skating and skate rental for children 10 years and under are $10.

The Hogansville Library will host its Page Turner Book Club Saturday from 2 – 3:30 p.m. Readers can discuss their recent book reads in a group suggestion and receive suggestions of what they can read next. The event is open to all adults and no library card/registration is required.

Hills & Dales Estate will host a special class taught by estate horticulturist Charlotte Baker. Baker will and teach the basic techniques for making your own healing, soothing lip balm, cream and salve from herb-infused oils. Participants will make some of each emollient to take home.
