The Hogansville Police Department aided in the capture of a woman who had fled handcuffed from the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office custody earlier Friday.

The woman, identified as Christina Lynn Council, was captured at the Wendy’s near the intersection of Bass Cross Road and Williams Street. She is now back in the custody of the MCSO.

Meriwether County sheriff’s deputies had located Council at the Garden Inn & Suites and called in the HPD to assist in her transfer as they did not have a transport vehicle with them, said MCSO Lt. Bruce Gilbert. Gilbert was on scene at the time of the incident.

Council allegedly escaped from officers after she was handcuffed, jumped a fence and ran into the woods, according to HPD Chief Jeff Sheppard. Sheppard was not on scene at the time of the incident.

Gilbert said a Hogansville officer pursued Council but was allegedly unable to follow her over the fence.

Council was located at the Wendy’s and may have been attempting to hide in the restroom of the restaurant. During her capture, Council was found to have escaped at least one of the handcuffs, Sheppard said. She was taken into custody without further incident.

Council was wanted for a violation probation and failure to appear charge out of Meriwether County and Coweta County. She is a suspect in several other crimes, Gilbert said.

Sheppard said detectives found stolen mail in the room she was staying in at the Garden Inn & Suites. Council will be charged with stolen mail charges on top of escape charges from the HPD.

The Georgia Department of Corrections Fugitive Squad, LaGrange Police Department, Coweta Police Department and Troup County Sheriff’s Office assisted with finding Council, Sheppard said.
