Throughout this pandemic, our healthcare workers have suffered more than most. It’s been well documented that as the rest of us adjusted our lives, they were the ones dealing with the people who are really sick. They are the ones working super long hours and having to go home to their families, worried about possibly infecting them with COVID-19.

Although it should’ve never been in doubt, this pandemic has reaffirmed the difficult, extremely important work that they do. We, like others, thank them for the work they continue to do as this pandemic rages on.

All that being said, that made it really awesome to find out that local LPN, Joy Thomas, won tickets to this weekend’s Super Bowl in Los Angeles. Thomas, who works for Emory, was one of two statewide winners for the hospital system.

If that wasn’t cool enough, we also learned that Thomas’ 30th wedding anniversary is next week, making this trip even more meaningful.

It’s almost as if it was meant to be. How else could you explain timing so perfectly?

We hope Thomas and her husband have the time of their lives in Los Angeles this weekend. What an unbelievable opportunity.

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as Thomas called it. For someone with decades of healthcare experience, it’s a fitting thank you.
