The LaGrange boys basketball team punched their ticket to the Region 2-AAAA championship game with an 85-77 win over Shaw on Friday.

It was a back-and-forth game early with neither team able to establish momentum. The defense was suspect for both teams all night, but offenses were free-flowing.

After sweeping them in the regular season, LaGrange came into the game as favorites.

The game went into the break with the Grangers having a close two-point lead.

Shaw fought back in the third quarter and was on the cusp of taking the lead when Devin Dowell got a clutch steal and layup on the other end to put the Grangers back up by five. Shaw then went on a 7-1 run to take the lead late in the third. Kobe Jones put the team on his back as he hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Grangers a 55-50 lead.

The Grangers went on a 14-2 run at the end of the third quarter and into the fourth to take the life out of the game. The Grangers built a 71-57 lead late before Shaw closed the gap to make the final score more flattering.

LaGrange will face rivals Spencer, for the Region 2-AAAA championship on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. The Grangers dropped botched regular season games versus Spencer and will look to get revenge against their rivals.
