Goodwill and the Troup County School System today announced a partnership that will make Goodwill’s free tax preparation program more accessible to those in the Troup County area, according to a press release from Goodwille.

Goodwill provides free tax preparation services to households with income of $57,000 a year or less through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), an IRS-sponsored tax program.

Goodwill has provided free tax prep services for the community for over 10 years but recently expanded their services into Troup County with the addition of a Goodwill Career Center coming soon.

Due to construction delays with the new career center, the Troup County School System stepped in to provide the temporary space needed for Goodwill to serve the community during tax season. The current site for Goodwill’s free tax prep services will be at the Clearview Elementary  School Auditorium located at 1905 S Davis Road in LaGrange. Despite delays, the new Goodwill  Retail Store and Career Center in LaGrange is expected to be completed this spring, which will bring an array of free career services to the community. Goodwill will begin filing tax returns in LaGrange on February 21 and will run through March 29.

Goodwill will also be offering multiple ways to get your taxes done for free this tax season as they implement more convenient ways for individuals to file their taxes. Taxpayers in Troup County will have the option to choose between quick and easy drop-off appointments in-person at the Clearview  Elementary School Auditorium, virtual tax services, or a “do it yourself” (DIY) option. No unscheduled walk-ins will be allowed this tax season. All individuals are asked to call toll-free at 1-833-755- 2179 to make an in-person tax preparation appointment or visit www.goodwillsr.org/vita for more information on virtual filing options.

The health and safety of staff and clients remain a priority and individuals who schedule in-person or drop-off appointments should expect increased sanitization of high-touch areas and social distancing. Wearing masks is also encouraged.
