The Cavaliers boys’ soccer team escaped Temple with a hard fought 4-2 victory on Tuesday.

Callaway was down 1-0 at halftime after a poor display in adverse conditions — the rain was coming down and turned the field into mud. The Cavaliers rattled off two goals in quick succession to grab a 2-1 lead in the second half before Temple answered back with a goal to knot the game up at two. Jostin Raymundo got the game-winning goal before Journee Jordan scored a late goal from the right wing to put the game to bed.

Raymundo put on a man of the match display with two goals and an assist. The other offensive star player on the night was Greyson Batchelor, who provided three assists.

Blake Eubanks also chipped in on offense with a goal as well.

All four goals scored were the result of an assist as it was a team win for the Cavaliers spurred on by a massive second half turnaround.

Nitler Recinos was standing on his head in goal and made save after save to keep the Cavaliers afloat. He made a whopping eight saves in the game, which was the difference in Callaway escaping with a win instead of a draw or a loss.

The Cavaliers are off to their best start in team history with a record of 9-1-1 and a region record of 2-1. Callaway’s next game is at home to the top team in the region, Bremen, on Friday, March 11. Bremen beat Callaway 5-1 early this season to give the Cavaliers their only loss on the season.
