A man was arrested Sunday following a foot chase with LaGrange Police Department officers after he shot a 63-year-old man with an Orbeez water bead blaster.

According to a press release from the LPD, officers responded to a call that the suspect, 46-year-old Travis Gates, had pointed the gun at the victim. Gates was in a silver vehicle. Officers observed the described vehicle and caught up to it to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle operator then parked the vehicle in a church parking lot, located at the Hamilton Road Central Baptist Church.

The officer approached the vehicle and due to the possibility of a weapon, the officer un-holstered his weapon and instructed the operator to show his hands. The vehicle operator allegedly refused and drove away from the stop. The vehicle, while on private property, drove through a chain-link fence.

The officer followed Gates on foot, who then stopped short of striking another fence, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. A second officer saw Gates and engaged in a foot pursuit. Gates was subsequently arrested without further incident.A search of the vehicle revealed the suspect had an Orbeez Splatball water bead blaster and had pointed the water bead blaster at the victim/ complainant. Gates was charged with pointing a gun at another, criminal damage to property, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving and driving without a valid license.
