4-H students place in public speaking competition

Six area 4-H students recently attended a public speaking competition at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton and walked away with top spots, according to a press release from the Troup County Extension Office.
Known as District Project Achievement, this annual competition allows youth to choose a topic of interest that they then research. They compose a speech and presentation and then compete against other seventh to twelfth graders across the district.
There were over 400 4-H students total that competed. The first-place winners then advance to the state competition which is held in Atlanta in mid-July.
Mary Joy Moosman, a tenth grader at Troup County High School, placed first in the sports category. Asher Watts, a ninth-grade homeschooler, placed third in Performing Arts Piano. Coming in second place in her category, Ireland Hardy competed in General Recreation. Charlie Cook, who is also homeschooled, is in eighth grade and he competed in the History category. He placed third.
Katelyn Braswell and Susannah Lynn competed in Sports and Workforce Preparation & Career Development, respectively. Miss Braswell is a tenth grader at Callaway High School, and Miss Lynn is a tenth grader at Troup County High School. Since Moosman placed first in her category, she will compete in the State Competition on July 20, 2022.
