Beginning Friday, Lafayette Theatre Company will put on a six-performance production of “The Nerd” for two weekends.

Presented by Lafayette Society for Performing Arts (LSPA) and Hometown Family Medicine, and performed by members of Lafayette Theatre Company, “The Nerd” features local actors of all ages.

The performance will have six showtimes beginning on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Lafayette Society for Performing Arts, located at 214 Bull Street in downtown LaGrange. Showtimes will be April 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. and the following weekend, April 28, 29, and 30 at 7:30 p.m, with a matinee showing on May 1 at 3 p.m.

“The Nerd is a hilarious comedy by Larry Shue,” explains Director, Jack Mormon.

“Set in the 1970s, we meet a young architect and his friends as they must deal with the most unbelievable nerd in the history of nerds. However, this nerd saved the architect’s life back in Vietnam, so he feels incredibly indebted to him. If you don’t have a smile on your face throughout this entire show, we haven’t done our job.”

“The Nerd” boasts a few delicious plot twists and, on the surface, it’s a frothy but fairly conventional drama.

Comedy, drama, and themes of selfishness and selflessness appear throughout the show, which is sure to leave the audience with memorable one-liners and a sense of nostalgia.

“Our cast is a great mix of seasoned actors and those that are new to the stage.  It has been great to watch them work together. I am also incredibly indebted to our remarkable stage manager Kelly Finley. She has been a uniting force for the entire cast, designers, and crew. We invite everyone to come out and spend the evening with The Nerd,” Mormon said.

The six-performance production adapted for the stage and performed by Lafayette Theatre Company is sure to be a comedic and heartfelt spectacle.

“The Nerd” is the fourth LSPA production in the 2022 year, with the YSWG Spring Concert, And Then What Happened, Seussical Jr. to follow through June of this year.

The venue is the LSPA Black Box Theatre located at 214 Bull Street in downtown LaGrange, Georgia.
