Weekend Ticket: streets to close for artisan fair, cycling event

The weather in Troup County this weekend is expected to be warm and sunny, creating the perfect conditions to enjoy some of the outside events happening throughout the county.

Highlighting the weekend will be the “Walk on Ridley” Spring Artisan Market in Downtown LaGrange on Saturday on Ridley Avenue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The extensive market will feature over 70 vendors consisting of handcrafted/handmade products, local makers, live art, artisan showcases, boutique goods, pottery, live music, food trucks and more. Other vendors will also carry baked goods, preserves and natural herbs.

To accommodate for the fair, Ridley Avenue from N. Lafayette Square/Greenville Street to East Battle Street will be closed to traffic. This portion of the street will reopen following the fair’s conclusion.

On Saturday in West Point, Chatahoochee Riverkeeper will host the West Point Lake Wildlife Cruise. The cruise will take place aboard the West Point Lake floating classroom from 10 a.m. to noon (EST).

Participants will learn about the fish found in the lake and other wildlife in the area. Binoculars will be provided.

This community cruise will be led by Chattahoochee Riverkeeper staff and wildlife experts from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

On Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Downtown LaGrange will be transformed into a high-speed race course and block party as the city welcomes hundreds of professional and amateur bicyclists to its inaugural criterium – the LaGrange Cycling Classic. VIPs will have exclusive access to Del’avant Event Center for complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cash bar inside the main ballroom.

The following road closures will begin Sunday, April 24 at 7 a.m.:

  • Broome Street from Bull Street to Main Street
  • Main Street from Byron Hurst Street/East Depot Street to South Lafayette Square (Vernon Street)
  • Bull Street from South Lafayette Square (Vernon Street) to Byron Hurst Street
  • Byron Hurst Street from Bull Street to Main Street

Businesses and downtown sidewalks will remain open for the flow of pedestrians and spectators for the duration of the event. The streets will open back up to traffic and parking at around 10 p.m. Sunday. This event is free and open to the public.
