The Young Singers of West Georgia will perform a two-night production of the spring concert: Emotional Rollercoaster, presented by Lafayette Society for Performing Arts (LSPA) this Thursday and Friday.

Showtimes will be at 7 p.m. at the LaGrange High School auditorium, located at 516 N. Greenwood Street.

“Considering the unforeseen global events that have taken place over the past couple of years, an Emotional Rollercoaster theme seemed fitting for the times. The world has experienced an ample dose of fear, uncertainty, loneliness, loss, sadness, and anxiety. However, there have undoubtedly been silver linings within the chaos, where love and joy abound,” Stacey Hardigree, conductor and artistic director, said.

“This show was created to recognize and celebrate the range of emotions we experience as humans,” she said. “It was a fascinating task as I discovered that music can speak to almost any situation and feeling we face. Preparing a show such as this takes much perseverance and determination, and I am thankful that I have the opportunity to teach such bright, inquisitive, and vibrant singers. Their abilities are astounding and inspiring to me. We hope people will attend and that in our singing, we hope to lift the spirits of those who may be disheartened or put a smile on those faces who are not. Where there is despair, there is also hope. Where there is heartbreak, there is also love.”

The show consists of approximately 90 students ranging in age from 8 to 18.

Accompanied by professional musicians including Ashley Hawkins – piano, Callie Hammond – violin, Tessa Scanlon – cello, and Chris and Jordan Barnes on bass and rhythm guitar, the show features music from Broadway, pop, classical and jazz.

The YSWG Spring Concert is LSPA’s fifth production of 2022, with the Lafayette Theatre Academy’s productions of And Then What Happened and Seussical Jr. to follow through June of this year.
