Weekend Ticket: Races, book readings, more this weekend

Another warm weekend is expected in LaGrange and there are several inside and outside events going on.

Pam Avery, a Harris County resident and southern author, will be at Pretty Good Books, Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for a book launch and signing of her new book, “The Tanner Side of Town.” Avery’s newest book follows the life of a young woman growing up in turmoil of living in her small North Georgia Mountains community in the 1960s. Hogansville will have its first annual RUN HGVL 5K fundraiser benefitting Pioneer Youth in Downtown Hogansville Saturday evening. The race will start and end at The Depot and go through the Historic Mill Village. The Fun Run/walk will begin at 5 p.m. and costs $20. The 5K race will begin at 5:30 p.m. and costs $40 to participate. Registration for the event ends Friday at 11:59 p.m. A night market with local vendors will set up at The Depot after the race and feature live music by The Broken Strings Band. Also in Hogansville, the Hogansville Public Library will host its Pager Turner Book Club at 2 p.m. Saturday. The book club is open to all adults. No library card/ or registration is required.
