Early voting starts Monday, May 2, and will continue through May 20 for the upcoming Troup County municipal elections. Voting will be available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Troup County Government Center. Citizens will also be able to vote on two Saturdays — May 7 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Depending on your home address and party affiliation, there are several elections on the ballot this year.

The race for County Commission Chairman features Phil Nations challenging the incumbent, Patrick Crews, for his seat. Both candidates are Republicans.

For District 5 County Commissioner, incumbent Jimmy McCamey seeks to hold onto his seat against challenger Joe Kirkland. Both candidates are democrats.

Several candidates are also running for seats on the Board of Education. For District 1, incumbent Allen Simpson III is running unchallenged to hold his seat. For District 4, Anne O’Brien is running unchallenged to replace outgoing board member Rebecca Grubbs. For District 7, Kevin Dunn is also running unchallenged to replace outgoing Tanya Cameron.

All of the candidates for the Board of Education are nonpartisan.

Lastly, incumbent Vickie Sue McWaters is running unchallenged to be the Judge of the Magistrate Court. McWaters has been in the judicial system for over 25 years, serving as both an attorney and chief magistrate. McWaters is a nonpartisan candidate.

In other contested local races, Democratic candidates Frederick Manley and Ellen Wright will be on the ballot in the Senate 29 race, with the winner facing off against incumbent Republican Randy Robertson, who is unopposed in the primary. In the house race for District 136, incumbent Republican David Jenkins is being challenged by Kenneth Murphy.

Statewide races on the ballot will include Republican governor candidates David Perdue, Brian Kemp and Kandiss Taylor, as well as Democrat Stacey Abrams.  Election Day is May 24, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. To check your voting precinct, as well as to check your voter registration, be sure to visit https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/.
