The Troup Retired Educators Association awarded LaGrange High School student,

Kathryn Bedingfield, a $1,000 scholarship at the monthly meeting, Thursday, April 28, at Highland Country Club.  The scholarship is in honor of Curmilla Furgerson a former teacher in the LaGrange and Troup County School Systems.

Each year, a student who aspires to become a teacher is selected from one of the three area high schools. This year’s recipient explained why she wanted to become a teacher.

“A teacher is defined as someone who educates someone else on their own knowledge. However, an educator does more than just that by far. Teachers have to portray many characteristics such as patience, empathy, and adaptability, but the one that sticks out to me the most is listening,” Bedingfield said. “I want my students to be able to come to me and tell me about their home life, trust me with their problems, and know that someone in their lives cares about them.”

Kathryn is the daughter of Lee and Michele Bedingfield.  She plans to attend Reinhardt University this fall.
