According to a statement from the Troup County School System, 10 Callaway Middle School students were sent to West Georgia Wellstar due to heat-related complications Wednesday.
Students were participating in a seventh-grade field day. Students were sent to Wellstar as a precautionary measure, the statement said. All parents were contacted and either accompanied their student or followed the ambulance to the hospital.

The CMS Safety Team implemented the protocol in a quick and efficient manner to respond to the situation and additional school nurses were dispatched to CMS to assist, according to the statement.
Students had access to water and cool air during the field day, according to the statement.
“We will continue to monitor the students and the situation,” the statement says. “As always, the safety of our students is our first priority and concern.”
